TexMex'd Out.

Yes, I actually went to Texas. I know that it's land of GWB and all... but my college roomie lives in Brownsville now and I had to go see her! That and the weather hasn't been all that nice here in Indiana. It was great to escape for a few days.

So we hit South Padre Island, Mexico, and a couple of random beaches down there. Nothing too fancy. Just a nice chill vacation! But we had a GREAT time and I can't wait to see them all again later this summer when they come and visit us.

SP5 Q & A

I'm so excited... I NEVER remember to sign up for these in time. This is my first SP. So - pleased to meet you, Secret Pal (whoever you are)! Here's the obligatory Q&A for ya:

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you?
I'm a poor grad student. While I like nicer yarns, I usually have to substitute cheaper stuff. I don't buy uber-expensive stuff ever. But I don't have an appreciation for Red Heart either. So I guess I'm somewhere in the middle!

2. Do you spin? Crochet?
Learning to spin (but I really suck at it... I have an Ashford Traveller wheel, though), know a teeny tiny bit of crochet. I weave, though! Have a nice 4 shaft LeClerc loom taking up lots of space in my apartment.

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)
I'm allergic to soy, smoke, kitties, mohair, and really lanolin-ized wools. If it's a really clean wool, I'm okay.

4. How long have you been knitting?
Learned when I was about 11... then picked it up again my junior yr of college. So I've been a "serious" knitter for about 3 yrs.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yes. But mostly I just put stuff on there so I remember to watch and see if it goes on sale. So please don't feel like you have to use it. Incase you do use it, I don't mind used items. Hey, it's gonna get a little worn anyway right?

6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
Vanilla, cake, sugar cookie... you know, the tasty ones!

7. Do you have a sweet tooth?
Yeah. Cherry and Strawberry Twizzlers are my weakness!

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
Weaving, sewing, fixing things. I'd like to learn some woodworking stuff.

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
Anything, pretty much. But no religious music or easy listening stuff :\ And yes, my computer and car can play MP3s and so can my Ipod. :)

10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?
I like purple and blue most, but I love Morrocan-type color palettes. Basically if it's colorful I'm happy.

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I'm recently married (to my high school sweetheart!!!! Dan rocks) and pondering a dog.

12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)
I wanna have a farm with a couple horses and some functioning farm equipment. And do something different everyday... build something, fix something, what have ya. Even though I'm getting a Master of Public Affairs, I'd rather do something simple.

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?
Hm. I like anything colorful and not fuzzy! Pretty easy, right? ;)

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
Mohair, alpaca. DOG. icky icky. To me, atleast.

15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s?
Stuff from Scarf Style, Glampyre designs. Loop-d-loop (got it from the library) is probably going to be an obsession soon.

16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
A scarf. Scarves make great presents and nobody complains how they fit when they get them. I like making short sleeved or sleeveless tops for myself.

17. What are you knitting right now?
Will be knitting Orangina in a few days :) Just ordered my Rowan 4 ply (very cheap... I scoured everyplace!). Now waiting on my teeny tiny circs.

18. What do you think about ponchos?
Meh. I'd rather make a shawl or a wrap. And it'd have to be not fuzzy and not scary for me to wear one.

19. Do you prefer straight or circular needles?
It depends. I guess I don't really have a preference.

20. Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Bamboo or aluminum. But I could deal with plastic. I do love my Denise set that Dan got me :)

21. Are you a sock knitter?
Once in a while, yep. I'm secretly drooling over sock knitting machines on Ebay, too. But I can't bring myself to spend that much $ on one. I mean, my loom is huge and it cost less than that!

22. How did you learn to knit?
I've always been a nerd... checked a book out of the public library when I was little. Sat there and wadded the yarn until my mom read the book and figured it out for me... ;) thanks, ma!

23. How old is your oldest UFO?
Uh... maybe 6-8 mos? X-mas present I never finished for somebody.

24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird?
Horses! Hands down. Love 'em.

25. What is your favorite holiday?
HALLOWEEN.

26. Is there anything that you collect?
Apparently knitting books ;P And yarn... hehe

27. What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
None right now.

28. Any books out there you are dying to get your hands on?
Not that I can think of at the moment.

Sugar and me... yes, I <3 horses. Wish this one was mine! Posted by Hello
